Hapkido is a Korean system of unarmed fighting that contains both long and close range fighting techniques. It uses kicks and hand strikes at longer ranges and pressure point strikes, joint locks with an emphasis on circular motion, throws, and takedowns as a complete system of fighting.
Hapkido practitioners seek to gain advantage through footwork and body positioning to employ leverage, avoiding the use of strength against strength. Today, a typical well rounded syllabus contains approximately 3600 techniques! There are many styles of Hapkido in the world, all from the same source and all focussing on different areas of the Hapkido system.

Capital Hapkido Canberra’s core focus is on the teaching of practical, real world self defence. We do this predominantly through the teachings of Hapkido and Gongkwon Yusul and have focused the theory of these arts into a fun, practical framework.
We study KHF Hapkido under Grand Master Young Seol Ryoo.
Our Instructors are internationally certified and have practical experience throughout the security, law enforcement, and military industries. We strive to ensure that every student can grow in a safe, fun, and challenging environment.
Capital Hapkido Canberra is more than just a martial arts centre. We are a not-for-profit focused centre that strives to support people inside and outside of our community with the goal to improve the balance and focus in peoples lives. Many of our members from dissimilar backgrounds have become friends outside of the club and as a group we aim to assist each other with all aspects of life.
As our membership grows it is our goal to expand our operations to encompass people from all walks of life. People of all ages and backgrounds are welcome.
